September 2011 update

This summer we made the decision that we would homeschool our son, Victor for the coming school year. We are excited to be able to teach Victor and help shape his world and life view.  So far, we are 3 days into our new schooling venture and Victor loves it! We were able to sign him up for a weekly sports program through the City (every Wednesday morning) and an art class; we are grateful for these opportunities to connect him with the community and help him grow in new areas.

Another significant deision we made this summer is to return to the US for our Home Ministry Assignment December 2011 through March 2012. Homeschooling will give us the flexibility to travel and meet with you when we are back in the US. We look forward to seeing family, friends, and growing our ministry partnerships with churches and individuals. More to come on this end! This fall, I have been asked to teach an 8 week adult class that covers a variety of topics that deal with growing in Christ. I will be spending more time in the city meeting people who work with the immigrant and refugee population. This is going to be a real challenge learning about the structure that is already in place and seeking to learn where real needs exist within this population that our church can address. The large majority of these people groups come from predominantly Muslim countries. One book that has given me good direction is The Call of the Jericho Road, by Dr. Tim Keller. This is a great resource toward developing a strategy for mercy ministries out of the local church.
